Year 6 and the BBC Symphony Orchestra 28.09.2020
Year 6 enjoyed meeting some musicians from the BBC Symphony Orchestra during their class music lessons this week (via Zoom!). Shirley Turner (violin), Peter Mallinson (viola), Mark Sheridan (‘cello) and Alex Neal (percussion) led inspiring sessions based on Brahms’ Hungarian Dance no. 5, Holst’s Planet Suite and Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine. The musicians brought the music to life in a way that is only possible with an intimate knowledge of the score and the experience of sitting in the Orchestra for countless performances. Year 6 were able to ask questions about the music itself and about the musicians’ education and working life. Thank you to all the musicians who took part – it was very inspiring for the children.
