Twyford sends children onto some of the top independent schools in the country. We are proud of the diversity and number of schools that our children regularly go to. We have an impressive record of getting children into their school of choice and a reputation for giving good advice on the most suitable schools for the nature of the child.
There is a wide choice of schools offering day or boarding, both full and flexi, single sex and co-ed within a 60 mile radius of Twyford. At our most recent biennial Senior Schools Fair, 20 schools attended all of whom we have strong relationships with. These include: Bedales, Bradfield, Bryanston, Canford, Downe House, Eton College, Godolphin, King Edward VI Southampton, Lord Wandsworth College, Marlborough, Portsmouth Grammar School, Radley College, St Edward’s Oxford, St Mary’s Calne, St Swithun’s, Sherborne Boys, Sherborne Girls, Wellington College, Winchester College, Wycombe Abbey.
Some children move on to local independent day schools at the end of Year 6 (11+) but the vast majority stay on to Year 8 (13+) enjoying the breadth and pace of the Twyford curriculum as well as the wonderful opportunities of being a senior in a Prep school.
Twyford prides itself on its experience in helping parents to choose the best senior school for their child. This begins in Year 4 with a ‘Future Schools’ talk given to all parents by the Headmaster, followed up with individual appointments. The Senior Schools Fair enables parents to meet many Registrars and Admissions teams from senior schools without having to travel miles! The children are thoroughly prepared for their senior school applications and are given lots of practice for the ISEB’s Common Pre-Tests, receiving guidance on best interview and exam techniques.
We are extremely proud of our academic record. Every year children win scholarships in a wide range of fields including academic, sports, music, art and drama. Please find below our most recent results.
2024 – 40 Year 8 pupils, 16 Destination Schools
Congratulations to our wonderful cohort of Year 8s, all of whom made a successful transition to their chosen senior schools, some through Common Entrance and the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate, others through the scholarship or Winchester Entrance route.
We are immensely proud of all those who challenged themselves to apply for scholarships in the 2023-2024 academic year. Twyford pupils put themselves forward for an impressive 18 awards across academic, sport, music, art, and drama. The process of scholarship application can be daunting and demanding, but it brings with it a multitude of benefits: the development of self-discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic; the rapid growth of knowledge and skills; and the blossoming of self-belief.
Among a cohort of 40 Year 8 pupils, 10 scholarships were gained: three academic (Canford and Godolphin), four sport (King Edward VI, Sherborne Boys’, Forres Sandle Manor, and Dauntsey’s), one music (Canford), one art (Canford), and one DT (Sherborne Boys’).
In addition to this, 8 boys passed the Winchester College Entrance exam, 3 passed the KES entrance exam at 13+, and 26 sat Common Entrance and Pre-Senior Baccalaureate assessments at 13+. In total, Twyford pupils went on to 16 of the most prestigious and successful senior schools in the country.
Finally, a small number of pupils took 11+ exams to local day schools, with one gaining a sport scholarship to King Edward VI.
